How It Works
It’s time our students were rewarded for their amazing accomplishments.
Wise Up is a student life recognition scholarship program built to recognize student achievement in a broad range of categories. This spring, Wise Up will host the first annual Wise Up West Michigan red carpet awards ceremony, where students nominated from high schools around West Michigan will be awarded $1,000 scholarships in seven different categories.
Schools form a Wise Up committee with Student Council. A teacher oversees the committee and serves as the liaison between the school and Wise Up. Students nominate other students for awards. The Wise Up committee acquires endorsements for nominations from teachers and then chooses school winners.
Winning names and nominations are sent to the school district. The district forms a voting committee to select five candidates (one in each category) from all schools to be nominees at a regional awards ceremony.
Students who are nominated attend a dinner and Gala. A regional awards ceremony board selects winners and award scholarships at annual awards Gala.
At Wise Up we want to celebrate hard-working and well-rounded students. Too often, students are celebrated for achievements that don’t prepare them for life past high school or represent who they truly are. Wise Up firmly believes that it’s time to celebrate hard-working students in ALL the areas they excel. We hope to accomplish this by raising up students in categories that exemplify strong character and a preparedness for their future. The categories are listed below: If they remind you of a student you know, nominate them today!
After the finalists are announced, it’s time for the black tie celebratory affair. 35 students will be invited along with their VIP guests, and they will arrive to a red carpet sidelined with loads of media and press for their moment in the spotlight. “Mocktail” hour will feature gourmet appetizers and spritzers, and finalists will have an opportunity to rub shoulders with elite sponsors from their communities and area colleges. The night will then turn to a fantastic dinner, which will feature a keynote speaker and the main awards event. This will truly be a night to remember for these students, and an amazing opportunity for the community to meet and celebrate the brightest up-and-coming talents in our area.
